This class provides trainees with the reading skills needed for employment in their chosen occupations and the ability to function independently in society. This class enhances reading and vocabulary skills. Writing and test taking practice is part of the course.

Trainees progress through a series of levels in the class until ready to enter GED, high school or vocational classes. Trainees practice reading texts and practical reading material such as newspapers and magazines.

Trainees are assigned to this class if their reading component level on the TABE test at enrollment in Job Corps is below 541.
